One part of our vision here at Central is to help people connect with the community and the world around us. Our congregation does this in many ways, not the least of which is through our Week of Compassion offering. This special offering is taken each February and helps the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) respond to disasters throughout the United States as well as around the world.
One example of how we help make a difference is reported by Nick Guttman, a representative of the Week of Compassion, who works amidst a terrible drought in the troubled nation of Somolia. He recently ran into a man who was attempting to water his cattle in one of the few remaining reservoirs in the area. Week of Compassion is helping this man and others to find immediate and long-term water resources for their livestock, as well as themselves, and to have the resources to be able to restock in the fall.
We will take our Week of Compassion special offering on February 19 and 26. To contribute you may use one of the special envelopes provided or simply write “Week of Compassion” on your check.
